About the Event
The participants of the seminar will discuss how business can remain competitive while meeting renewable energy and climate goals.
In Latvia, light and heavy goods vehicles, public transport, as well as buses, make up more than 40% of all road transport emissions. So far, the discussion on the decarbonisation of trucks, public transport and buses is missing. How quickly to introduce biomethane and other alternative fuel (LNG, CNG, H2) vehicles, how to speed up the electrification of freight transport, communal transport and buses, how we will change vehicle operating tax rates and fuel taxes, how to use the latest EU transport decarbonisation initiatives - this will be discussed by the market at the seminar participants and state administration and local government representatives.
Several regulations will change the transport sector - the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation, the Directive on promoting the use of "clean" and energy-efficient means of transport, the Renewable Energy Directive, as well as other regulations on sustainability or ESG aspects. As a result, demand from customers or investors for more sustainable services will increase. In order for Latvia to achieve its climate goals by 2030, faster growth of electromobility and alternative fuels is necessary - this creates new opportunities for business.
Speakers of the discussion:
- Annija Novikova, Director of the Department of Public Transport Services of the Ministry of Transport
